The KAS (Gazetted Probationers) exam is Karnataka's most competitive state exam, and cutoff marks decide everything — which post you get, and whether you make the list at all. In this analysis we separate official KPSC data from unofficial coaching-source estimates, so you know exactly what to trust.
1. Official data: GP-2017-18 final cutoffs (from KPSC's own PDF)
KPSC publishes the final cutoff marks of the last selected candidate on its official website. The most complete published table is for the Gazetted Probationers 2017-18 cycle (final marks = Mains + Interview). These are the real numbers, taken directly from KPSC's official PDF:
Tahasildar Grade-II (KAS) – Residual Parent Cadre
| Category | Final Cutoff Marks |

| GM/W (Women) | 802.00 |

| 3B | 795.75 |
| SC | 771.25 |
| SC/W | 793.50 |

| Labour Officer | GM 784.50 | GM/XMP 620.75 · SC 763.00 |
Hyderabad-Karnataka region (lower cutoffs apply)
| Post | Notable official cutoffs |
|---|---|
| Deputy Superintendent of Police | GM/W 792.00 · GM/RL 771.50 · 2B 690.00 |
| Tahasildar Grade-II | GM 803.75 · GM/W 773.25 · SC 747.50 · ST/W 615.25 |
| Deputy Superintendent of Excise | ST 780.00 |
What the official data teaches: the GM→category gap at the final stage is surprisingly narrow (often under 30 marks), women / rural / Kannada-medium horizontal categories sometimes cut higher than the parent category, and Hyderabad-Karnataka regional relaxation is real and significant (e.g. Tahasildar ST/W 615.25 vs 799.00 GM in RPC).
2. The 2023-24/2024 cycle: unofficial EXPECTED prelims cutoffs
KPSC has not published a single consolidated "2024 prelims cutoff" document that we could verify. Coaching platforms publish expected numbers that do not agree with each other. Treat these strictly as estimates (Prelims is scored out of 400):
| Category | Expected range (unofficial) |
|---|---|
| General | ~185–190 |
| 2A | ~150–155 |
| 2B | ~135–140 |
| 3A | ~170–175 |
| 3B | ~170–172 |
| SC | ~150–155 |
| ST | ~150–163 |
| Cat-1 | ~165–168 |
3. What this means for the GP 2026-27 attempt
- Final-stage competition is tight: in official data, category cutoffs sit close to GM — every mark in Mains matters, not just clearing Prelims.
- Horizontal categories matter: rural (RL), Kannada-medium (KMS) and women (W) lists each have their own cutoffs — know which one you compete in.
- Hyderabad-Karnataka quota is a real advantage if you hold the 371 certificate — the gap can exceed 100 marks.
- Check the official cutoff page first: KPSC hosts cutoff PDFs at kpsc.kar.nic.in/cutoff.html — including 2024 departmental exams (JE, JHI, ASWO and more).
